I had quit looking. After all, there are three horses here and it is just me and my two kids. So why buy another horse? I should be able to ride my filly this coming spring, so it wouldn’t be smart to buy another horse, right? Well, I got a phone call. He had a really nice horse that is gentle as can be. So, after some talking, I went and looked at him, after all, the price was right. The only really scary thing about him is that he is still a stud. So, we went and looked, we rode. We liked him, so there I was, I was now ready to be a part of that old song by the folk song group “America”. I owned a horse with no name. So we brought him home. Turned him loose in the pasture beside the horses I already have and he seemed to be adjusting OK. So, I went hunting. When we got back from hunting, some four hours later, we decided to bring him in and clean the burs from his mane and tail. That was when my son said “hey, he is bleeding.” Sure enough, he had a large gash. So we went fence walking. At least it was the second post that I looked at that had the evidence. Several strands of hair and some blood, so yes, he stuck himself on a fence post. So for the last week, we’ve been doctoring a horse. And now I have an appointment for getting him gelded on the first.
He does have a name now. “Jake”. We toyed around with names like “T-Post”, “Cash”, “IHNI” pronounced “Innie” standing for “I Have No Idea” but we settled on Jake. Simple, quick, stern.

I’ll get better photos later.
